In a major crackdown on vehicle theft, the Kapurthala police have arrested two suspected thieves and recovered 21 stolen motorcycles alongside a Maruti car.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Toora, both suspects have extensive criminal histories with multiple cases already registered against them. The accused were produced in a local court, which remanded them to one day of police custody for further interrogation.
The initial breakthrough occurred when a CIA staff team, led by ASI Darbara Singh, was patrolling near Kanjli Road. The team received a tip-off that Ravi Kumar, a resident of Chuharwal, was attempting to sell a stolen motorcycle in the area.
Acting swiftly, the police apprehended Kumar. During interrogation, he disclosed the locations of 14 stolen motorcycles — including 10 Splendor, two Discover and two Platina bikes — as well as a stolen Maruti car, all of which were subsequently recovered. A case was registered against him at the Sadar police station.
In a separate incident, Superintendent of Police (Detective) Harinder Singh stated that on May 10, Pinderjit Singh of Preet Nagar reported that his Splendor motorcycle was stolen. Utilising technical assistance, the police tracked down and arrested Rajvinder Singh, alias Raju, a resident of Boot village.
Following his interrogation, police recovered an additional seven stolen motorcycles. The police noted that while Ravi Kumar had one prior criminal case against him, Rajvinder Singh was already facing three theft-related cases.
