New Delhi Municipal Council vice-chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal on Tuesday conducted inspections across several waterlogging-prone areas in the NDMC region to review monsoon preparedness and assess ongoing redevelopment and sanitation works at Khan Market.
Accompanied by senior officials from the Civil, Electrical, Horticulture, Health and Road departments, Chahal visited areas, including Bharti Nagar, Golf Links, Tughlaq Lane and Pandara Road, to review arrangements aimed at preventing waterlogging during the upcoming monsoon season.
During the inspection, he directed officials to ensure timely completion of all monsoon-related works and strengthen coordination among departments for prompt response during heavy rainfall.
Chahal said the NDMC had already completed 100 per cent desilting work under the first phase by March 31, while the second phase is expected to be completed by June 15. According to NDMC data, nearly 7,888 bell mouths, 4,833 gully traps and 8,913 manholes were cleaned during the first phase to improve drainage and reduce the risk of flooding.
The NDMC vice-chairperson said the civic body was working in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a modern and resilient urban infrastructure under the “Viksit Bharat” mission.
A day prior on Monday, Chahal carried out a inspection of Khan Market to review ongoing night sweeping operations and redevelopment projects. Officials from the Health and Civil departments, along with Resident Welfare Association representatives, were also present during the visit.
He reviewed several infrastructure improvement projects currently underway in and around the market area. Officials informed him that work related to laying granite stone blocks at the main entrance of Khan Market on Subramanium Bharti Marg had reached nearly 95 per cent completion, with only minor rectification work remaining.
